Film production services

What film services does your company offer?

We offer film production services for narrative and documentary films. We want to partner with African filmmakers and assist them in telling their own stories and contribute towards enriching the African cinema landscape. We also do corporate videos and music videos. We are also up for commissioned work but are more passionate about working in cultural preservation and working with tribal minority groups so they can tell their stories through the digital format.

How much does it cost to make a film?

It all entirely depends on what you want to shoot, where you want to shoot and the size of your film crew. All these elements influence and affect the budget for making a film. If you briefly outline your project we can make an estimate budget for you but each film has its own price and has certain elements that influence it. For example a big action film with explosions and wrecking cars will cost you much more than a romantic drama that plays at a house by the sea.

If I have an idea can I come to you and you help me develop and produce my film for me?

Even though we wish it were that easy, making films really isn’t a walk in the park. Film costs money, a lot of money. So if you have a great idea that we feel strongly about and you already have some form of financing in place we are more likely to consider partnering with you and assisting you with the shoot and post production.

Are you able to assist me in raising finance?

If we fall in love with your project and we are sure we can help you bring out its full potential we will assign a producer to your project who will fundraise for you. This however also transfers some legal and copyrights to Digital Afros.

Casting Services

Do I need to have prior acting or modelling experience?

It is advantageous to have previously done some acting or modelling work but that is not a requirement for you to join.

How old must I be in order to be considered for jobs?

Even though we would prefer for you to be above 18, because then you are legal and able to sign your own paper work and contract, this is absolutely not a requirement for you to join the casting agency.
We frequently need faces under 18 too and we even cast children sometimes. So if your parents are cool with it and sign a consent form to allow you to do this and assure you always have a guardian on the shoots, you too can get gigs.

What are the benefits of joining Shooting Stars Casting Agency?

You will be one of the first to know about casting calls and potential acting gigs in and around Namibia. We also share information on acting workshops and will share interesting information, tips and advise for potential actors.

Can I live off acting alone in Namibia?

Even though there are more opportunities unlocking for local actors in Namibia, the industry is still very small to sustain full time actors. The market fluctuates often, but if you are good and master your craft you are able to secure good paying jobs and then you can also consider looking for an agent in South Africa and overseas to get additional jobs in.

Will you secure me jobs?

It has to be understood that we are not an artist management agency, but strictly a casting agency that facilitates casting for our clients. We present options to our clients and they make the final decision about whom they would like to feature in their film, advert or print campaign.

How do you make payments for completed jobs?

It usually varies and depends on the clients and what set up they have. For background extras we usually try to pay them out immediately after the shoot on the same day in cash. For bigger roles such as lead and support cast payments can take up to 2 weeks. We usually make payments directly into bank accounts, so it is advisable to have your own bank account that you can provide the agency for paying your fees into.

What is usage fee?

Usage fee is an amount that is paid to actors with their faces clearly recognizable in a TV commercials that are used for exploitation by the client for a certain period of time in certain territories. The usage fee is calculated as a percentage of the professional cast rate you earn and depends on which media platforms and territories it will be exploited in. The usage fee usually only applies to lead and featured extras.
